Karlyn (1867-1934), a pseudonym for J. F. Burrows, was a professional society performer in stage hypnotism. He had books published by Hamleys, The Magician office and the Daisy Bank Publishing Company.

His “Programs of Magicians” documented over 70 magicians’ programs covering the period from 1864-1906.

He died of a heart attack after completing a show for the Parent Assembly S.A.M. It happened just after he was stepping out to take his final bow. Dr. Joseph Fries attended to him but it was already too late.

Pro society magician by 1900 with vent, smoke pictures, and lightning sketches. Moved to England. Wrote Some New Magic [1904, 36pp] and Programmes of Magicians [1907, 36pp]. As “Karlyn” wrote The Lightning Artist [c1905, 82pp], The Stage Artist [c1912], Secrets of Stage Hypnotism (1912, 71pp), and Stage Hypnotism, Stage Electricity and Bloodless Surgery (1914), etc.
